Adding a SnapScan payment code

How to get a SnapScan merchant code so givers can pay by phone — and why you probably do not need one.

Read this part before you start, because it is the thing that catches people out. The SnapScan app on your phone will give you a code, and it looks exactly like the one Giftling wants — but it is generated for a single payment and changes every time you ask for another. It will not work on a registry. What Giftling needs is the permanent code from a SnapScan BUSINESS account. Sole proprietors are accepted so you do not need a company, but they will ask for business details and approve you before switching you on. If that is more than you want to do, nothing is lost: bank transfer already works, arrives whole and costs nobody anything, and a Zapper code reaches more givers anyway.

What to do

  1. Sign up for a SnapScan business accountSole proprietors are accepted, so you do not need a company. Expect questions about the business and some documents.
  2. Wait for approvalThey verify before switching you on.
  3. Find your permanent codeIn the merchant portal, under the Payment methods tab. This is the one that stays the same — not the one the phone app makes for a single payment.

Then, in Giftling

Paste just the code — not a web address — into Direct payment options on your child's page. We build the payment link and draw the QR ourselves. We never set an amount, so a giver decides what to give.

Worth knowing

You do not have to do any of this

None of this is required. A bank transfer already works on your child's page, arrives whole, and costs nobody a fee — these rails are only for families who want givers to have another way to pay.
